Motacillidae

Characterised by the constant upward and downward flicking of the long tail. All are terrestrial insectivores. Eight non-endemic species occur within Australia, the most common and widespread being the Australasian Pipit Anthus novaeseelandiae. Both subspecies of the Yellow Wagtail Motacilla flava are non-breeding migrants to northern Australia.
