Ground Frogs

Family: Myobatrachidae

Unique to Australia and New Guinea, this group of small to medium-sized frogs is often referred to as ground frogs. Species vary greatly in habitats and habitat, and exhibit some of the world’s most diverse adaptations to get their young from egg to neonate frog. Most species have aquatic free-swimming larvae (tadpoles) while some have young that fully develop within the eggs. The inclusion of Rheobatrachus and Mixophyes in Myobatrachidae will likely change.
